Bitumen is a blend of hydrocarbons used for surfacing of roads and for a variety of industrial uses. It is produced in refineries from special qualities of crude oil. Globally 90% of all bitumen is used in road construction and 10% for industrial purposes.

In road construction bitumen is used as a surface coating. A surface coating is a mixture of bitumen (around 5 %) and crushed aggregates, used in road construction and maintenance, in which the bitumen ensures the binding between the different aggregates.

In line with the Growth and Transformation Plan II and the country’s economic growth which highly focuses on infrastructure development with a particular emphasis on road, rail and power sectors development, Libya Oil Ethiopia became one of the major players in the bitumen business. We have rich experience in managing the challenging supply chain of bitumen by fulfilling the requirements in delivering the different types of bitumen products that meets the specification of the customer.

Generally, we provide to our customer two types of bitumen that are listed below:

  • Cutbacks grades
  • Penetration grades

We currently import Cutback grade of:

  • MC 30
  • MC 800
  • MC 3000
  • RC 70

We also import Penetration grades of:

  • 40/50
  • 80/100
  • 85/100 or 185/200 grades.

Lubricants Class of Business is undertaking Lubricant laboratory service which is one of the Customer Value Propositions that the Company provides to its customers. The laboratory service is designed as an early warning system that identifies signs of lubricant degradation, increased wear and unwanted contaminants. Thus, condition-monitoring/proactive analytical services, ranging from oil analysis to product training and technical service, are considered to help Libya Oil Ethiopia customers achieve improved Engine/Machinery performance and service life. In addition, the Company provides Lubricant Survey, Used oil analysis and training support services to Industry and Wholesale customers to help them optimize oil and energy consumption and save cost. Libya Oil Ethiopia has professionals who provide these services.

Used Oil Analysis

The analysis of used lubricants can reveal important information about the condition of machinery and ongoing serviceability of the lubricant. In many applications, an aged lubricant can begin to cause damage to machinery rather than protect it. Whether this is due to excessive contamination or chemical degradation, oil analysis is the most effective means of detecting this common problem and optimizing service intervals.

So far there are two types of condition monitoring services available:-

Oil Condition Monitoring (OCM)

Oil Condition Monitoring is a chemical and physical evaluation of a used lubricant that provides insight to the condition of the oil in service. It provides information on fluid properties, contamination and degradation.

Benefits of OCM

  • Enable better assessment of lubricant performance
  • Calculate optimum drain interval to reduce lubricant cost
  • Eliminate unnecessary oil replacements

Equipment Condition Monitoring (ECM)

Equipment Condition Monitoring is assessment on a continuous or periodic basis of the mechanical condition of machinery, equipment and systems from the observations and/or measurements of selected parameters.

The technique used in Libya Oil Ethiopia Limited Laboratory to monitor the condition of equipment is Wear Metal Analysis.

"Normal" wear metal levels may vary significantly between different types of equipment and different applications.

The oil analysis is used to establish a wear trend for each piece of machinery, which will be specific to that item of machinery, its operating cycle, and its operating environment.

Wear particle analysis techniques give information about the elements present and their concentrations.

This information can be helpful in:

  • Forecasting wear-related problems before they lead to expensive failure
  • Quantifying contaminants and thereby identifying components that may be wearing.

Benefits of ECM

  • Extend equipment life by preventing premature equipment failure
  • Monitor wear process
  • Identify pending problems before they become catastrophic.

Both, Oil Condition Monitoring and Equipment Condition Monitoring are taking place in the Lubricants Department by Head of the Laboratory.

Libya Oil Ethiopia ensures that customers’ needs and requirements are met to their best satisfaction. This is systematically handled through our Customer Service Centre (CSC) where many key business processes begin, intersect or end. Our Customer Service Center works based on a ‘One stop shop ‘concept. The objective is to provide a single contact point for customers on all their requirements and hence improved service in terms of communication, response time and quality of delivered service.

Customers who call to get information or to give feedback do not have to contend with various departments depending on whether their calls are technical, operational or pertaining to one of the many markets we are serving.

The CSC is managed by well-trained, multi-disciplinary employees who can handle all customers’ requirements and queries. Thus, it deals with the following major activities with one single call:

  • Place orders
  • Place maintenance requests
  • Request for product and service information; for example stock availability, price, and technical information among others.
  • Sort out account and credit queries
  • Forward complaints

And many more….

A customer satisfaction survey is also being carried out periodically (usually every two years) so as to identify gaps and improve our customer handling process.

Our Customer Service Center, is located adjacent to the Libya Oil Ethiopia Head Office building. It gives services from Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm and Saturday from 8:00am to 12:00am.
